Ruby Hornsby defended her AHRC funded philosophy PhD in November 2025 (Leeds University) which addressed the question: Can humans and social robots be friends?
Ruby is currently a postdoctoral visiting fellow at Leeds University, where she is also a part-time postgraduate researcher for The Ethical Dating Online Project: A network of academics, industry professionals and charities working together to make online dating safer and more fulfilling.
She is also a part-time postgraduate researcher for a project based at Nottingham University which investigates young people's experiences with the police (UK). The project foregrounds the voices of young people to better understand their perspectives. Visit: Know My Rights

Ruby is the founder of Wiser Debate Club, a philosophical debate club for people aged 65+ in Leeds and Nottingham, which has been awarded funding to expand to other UK cities.
